Birds – The living descendants of the dinosaurs

WHO: 3.-10. class, Gymnasium and HF

SUBJECT: BIOLOGY

DURATION: 3 HOURS

On Møns Klint lives the world's fastest bird, the peregrine falcon, which has reached a speed of almost 400 kilometers per hour in free fall. It is possible to experience this bird species in the cliff area together with common Danish birds and occasionally more rare guests.

The teaching is based on knowledge of birds as an animal group, their lineage and systematics as well as habitats and living conditions. In addition, basic techniques for observing the birds and getting to know their field characteristics.

Through exercises in the impressive cliff landscape, the students' observation skills and concentration are trained.

At the higher grade levels, the aim is for the participants to gain knowledge of the bird's anatomy and adaptation to the ecological system, the role of birds as environmental indicators and their importance for the balance in nature.

How is Møns Klint actually formed? In this course, students must work with observations and formulate hypotheses. Out in nature, they must collect material in the form of chalk, fossils and stones.
