Møn and the surrounding islands have been designated as Denmark's first UNESCO biosphere reserve.
When you stand on top of Møns Klint - 128 meters above sea level - you are also standing on top of the Danish chalk foundation.
Denmark is uniquely built on a platform of chalk, and therefore bears witness Møns Klint about the enormous forces that have created the country and the unique flora and fauna in the area.
A UNESCO biosphere reserve is characterized by world-class nature and a rare wealth of particularly vulnerable animal and plant species, which are included in national and international lists of endangered species.
In the Møn UNESCO biosphere area, you can experience most Danish nature types, both on land and in the water, on 450 square kilometers. From Møns Klint to Nyord meadows; The Baltic Sea with its bays, fjords and nore as well as the unspoiled night sky, where on clear nights you can look through the Milky Way to the next galaxy.
The hilly area around Møns Klint is perfect for hiking in the beautiful, wild nature. Here you will find e.g. Klintekongens Rige, voted Europe's best hiking route.
