Your time journey starts in the Cretaceous period, when Denmark was covered by a large tropical sea.
The Cretaceous sea was full of deadly marine lizards – and not least billions of small coccolith algae, whose shells later became the chalk that forms our subsoil and Møns Klint is formed from.
From the Cretaceous Period you move through the Tertiary Period, where 2/3 of all life became extinct due to meteor impacts and supervolcanoes. And where the Cretaceous reappeared to the surface due to land uplift.
On to the Quaternary ice ages – where gigantic glaciers pushed up the old chalk plates from the Cretaceous period, thus forming the highly hilly landscape we know from Høje Møn – and not least Møns Klint.
End with the fantastic natural wealth found in today's landscape on Østmøn - and where a number of unique species today have their last habitat in Denmark.
The exhibition is dug into the cliff itself and built as an exciting time journey of 70 million years.
GeoCenter Møns Klint offers lots of drama, great stories and educational interactive installations. See below what else you can experience...
