Dark Sky is a phenomenon which means that it is possible to see a clear starry sky. You can do that on Møn and Nyord because they are places that are far away from the disturbing lights of the city, so the starry sky stands out more clearly than elsewhere.

That's why you can on Møns Klint experience a starry sky with thousands of sparkling and clear stars, shooting stars and the Milky Way.

The densely packed starry sky above Møn and Nyord is unique. That is why Møn and Nyord were named as the Nordic region's first Dark Sky Park and Community. In a Dark Sky Park, the darkness of the night is protected from local light pollution, so you have the best and clearest view of the starry sky. Dark Sky over Møn and Nyord is an experience for your senses and can be experienced all year round.

On a late summer night, you can see the Milky Way as a wide milky white band of light stretching across the sky and disappearing behind the horizon of the Baltic Sea, filled with swirling star clouds and black dust clouds out between the stars.

In August's balmy nights you can spend the evening counting shooting stars, and in autumn you can see the Milky Way's neighbor, the Andromeda galaxy, as a small nebulous cloud in the night sky. Although it is 2,4 million light years away, it is easy to see with the naked eye. And in December, the long, dark nights are lit up by the fireworks from the many shooting stars.
